Here is what Kenny MacAskill said about the trams in March 2003:
“Scottish National Party transport spokesman Kenny MacAskill welcomed funding for trams. However, he said it was “vital” that regulations were introduced to protect a new tram network from predatory competition*”.
Check the original on the BBC.
But then Kenny MacAskill also described the airport rail link as a “win win situation” when he supported that as well!
*(How ironic that the only “predatory competition” now comes from Kenny himself, and that Brian Souter, who bankrolled the SNP, has just won the contract to run Manchester’s trams).
